Brief introduction to the Development Center of Yi Women and Children in Liangshan ■ 凉山彝族妇女儿童发展中心 发布时间：2005-4-20 14:05:10
Proposed by many well-known Yi public figures at home and abroad wo are concerned about the development of Liangshan, the Development Center of Yi Women and Children in Liangshan was sponsored by people wo are enthusiastic in the development of Yi women and children, and has been registered in civil administration organ of the government. It is a non-profitable nongovernmental organization concentrating on charities.
With the purpose of promoting the thorough developing of Liangshan Yi women and children, the Center takes women and children wo are affected by drug, AIDS and poverty as main aiding targets, and gathers legal money by means of making applications to organizations, groups and individuals at home and abroad. The Center plans to establish women and children succoring network in rural communities, and carry out public welfare activities for constructing living capacity and protecting rights and interests.
The work of the Center includes the following items: investigate and study difficulties and problems faced by Liangshan Yi women and children, and explore positively developing strategies and ways that fit local social and cultural features; enhance communication and cooperation with relevant domestic and foreign academic groups and charity organizations; accept charity money and push forward feasible programs and succoring plans for the development of women and children.
The Center consists of three parts: board of directors, advising team and executive body. The board of directors is the authority and decision making body. Directors of the board are composed of people wo can get money and propose programs for the Center, wich is in charge of appointing and removing main cadres, examining and approving work systems, annual plans, program reports and reports on financial budget and final accounts. Advising team is composed of well-known figures and scholars, wich is the supervising, examining, guiding and evaluating body. Executive body has one head and three vice-heads wo are appointed by the board of directors. Under the Center there is the office, finance section, investigation and study section, education and training section, program planning section, publicizing and communication section, electronic network section, legal aiding section and medical service section. Heads of these sections are professionals that have academic credentials above college level.
At present, the Center has got money and materials from some organizations and individuals, and has assumed “ the demonstration program of succoring children affected by AIDS in Liangshan Yi rural areas”(the charitable succoring project aided by AC-China.) entrusted by the Study Center of Western Development of CUN. The Center has trained backbone staff on program managing, established work station in Zhuhe, Zhaojue County, and implemented the first aided 58 poor families (including 126 children). We adopt 4 ways to help orphans wose parents or one of the parents died and children in AIDS patients’ families: succor those wo are lack of basic living materials, and hand out grains, edible oil, clothes and other daily articles; aid children wo are deprived of education and provide tuition and things for study; help those wo can labour with their won strength and extend hens, sows and ewes to them and they return on young animal after reproduction. These young animals are to be extended to other aiding targets; carry out medical aid to those wo are ill or are in bad nutrition status.
Our Center plans to set up 4 women and children work stations and succor 500 families and children in rural communities that are most badly affected by drug and AIDS. Meanwile, we prepare to construct “rural handicrafts producing cooperative of Yi women”, “ Sparetime School for the Training of Youngsters’ Literacy and Skills” and charity hospitals. For this reason, we need to collect more money and recruit more volunteers. We hope all circles of the society could pay more attention to our work and provide more help.
